A legend falls: Paterno had to go

Unlike fiction, it doesn’t always end well for legends in real life.

Just ask Joe Paterno.

The Penn State trustees fired their iconic head football coach with a phone call Wednesday night.

While it was a sad farewell for the face of Penn State, it was the fitting farewell.

Turning a blind eye for years to a predatory pedophile monster in your midst is deplorable and inexcusable.

A moral compass should not be sacrificed upon the the hallowed altar of pigskin.

It turns out that Penn State football is not a sacred temple and Joe Paterno is not a god, after all.

In the end, his legacy was shredded in the thresher of a shocking sex scandal.
