Don't judge the truth by looking at the cover

I’ve been in the media business ever since the invention of the printing press, so I realize the merits of grabbing a reader’s attention.

Magazines need eye-catching covers to compete with the other mags stacked like cordwood on news stands. A quick glance has to be a compelling glance.

But Newsweek has taken that to an absurd level. Its cover this week not only grabs your attention, it grabs you by the neck and throws you into a hammerlock of deception.

Just because President Obama has come out in favor of gay marriage doesn’t make him gay.

This cover simply doesn’t have the truth, uh, covered.
